Purpose: A program about overcoming racial and gender bias in the military - finding inner strength and resilience to achieve personal/professional success in addition to serving as role models

The goal of this webinar is to educate professionals about the experience of historical discrimination in the lives of patients and families being cared for. Learners will become aware of their own perceptions and attitudes toward people of different race, gender or cultural backgrounds and will gain practical strategies to self-monitor and improve person-centered, trauma-informed care. Participants will also become inspired by the narrative of resilience, hope, and courage for themselves and others.

Objectives:

  1. Discuss how any personal experiences of discrimination may present in one’s life.
  2. Discuss how unconscious bias toward people of different race, gender or cultural backgrounds manifests in oneself and in relationships with others.
  3. Discuss how resilience, inner strength and faith impacted the lives of our speakers in the military and beyond.
  4. Develop best practice strategies that can be employed by professionals and caregivers when identifying/recognizing signs of bias in the care delivery process

Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, social workers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students

Criteria for Successful Completion:

  1. Attendance at entire session
