Hospice & Palliative Care

Purpose: This webinar will provide nurses with information and strategies to implement evidence-based practices to prevent and/or manage wounds in advanced illness.

Objectives:

1. Identify components required to optimize patient outcomes in regards to preventing or treating wounds in advanced illness
2. Discuss strategies to prevent skin breakdown, further deterioration of existing wounds, wound and other symptom management, and those that optimize well-being
3. List components of a wound assessment
4. Identify local wound management techniques (dressing selection)

Why Do I Need to Know This?
Caring for patients with advanced illness is complex and requires a comprehensive interprofessional approach to optimize well-being for the patient and their caregivers. Advanced illness is often accompanied by increased risk of chronic debility, advancing disease, multi-system organ failure, the potential for skin breakdown and/or the presence of wounds. Nurses, who work as members of interprofessional teams, should be knowledgeable about evidence-based strategies to prevent and treat wounds in advanced illness. 

Target Audience: Nursing administrators and managers, nurses, and healthcare coaches

Criteria for Successful Completion:

1. Attendance at entire session
2. Submission of completed evaluation form
3. Successful completion of a posttest (70% passing grade)
