Purpose: This webinar will discuss behavioral de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication skills to support the interdisciplinary team in the management of challenging behaviors in different settings.

Objectives:  

1. Review case scenarios when psychiatric and /or medical conditions have behavioral changes as a part of their clinical manifestation in elderly patients
2. Discuss the risk factors that contribute to behavioral changes in the elderly
3. Highlight some approaches to guide care when addressing agitation, paranoia, and sundowning in different setting
4. Implement de-escalation techniques and communication skills that can assist with care and improve relationships with patients and their family caregivers
