Care Improvement Strategies
Purpose: This webinar will provide nurses with information and strategies to implement evidence-based practices to prevent and/or manage wounds in advanced illness.
Objectives:
- Identify components required to optimize patient outcomes in regards to preventing or treating wounds in advanced illness
- Discuss strategies to prevent skin breakdown, further deterioration of existing wounds, wound and other symptom management, and those that optimize well-being
- List components of a wound assessment
- Identify local wound management techniques (dressing selection)
Caring for patients with advanced illness is complex and requires a comprehensive interprofessional approach to optimize well-being for the patient and their caregivers. Advanced illness is often accompanied by increased risk of chronic debility, advancing disease, multi-system organ failure, the potential for skin breakdown and/or the presence of wounds. Nurses, who work as members of interprofessional teams, should be knowledgeable about evidence-based strategies to prevent and treat wounds in advanced illness.
Target Audience: Nursing administrators and managers, nurses, and healthcare coaches
Criteria for Successful Completion:
- Attendance at entire session
- Submission of completed evaluation form
- Successful completion of a posttest (70% passing grade)
