Purpose: The purpose of this webinar is to provide an update about the clinical services and regulations that govern the federal and state hospice benefit.

Objectives:

  1. Explain the various physician roles during a hospice stay
  2. Describe the services included in the hospice benefit
  3. Explain hospice eligibility in terms of medical eligibility and appropriateness for hospice
  4. Describe the reimbursement available for physician encounters with hospice patients

Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, social workers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students

Criteria for Successful Completion:

  1. Attendance at entire session
  2. Submission of completed evaluation form
  3. Successful completion of a posttest (70% for physicians, non-physicians, and nurses; 80% for social workers)

Continuing Education Credits: 1.0

Release Date: April 29, 2019

Expiration Date: April 18, 2022 (for physicians and non-physicians); November 1, 2024 (for nurses); January 31, 2022 (for NYS Social Workers)

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Accreditation Requirements and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) and the MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care. MSSNY is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 

The Medical Society of the State of New York designated this enduring material for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
